What is ISO 9001?
The ISO 9001 standard provide a proven framework for a systematic approach to managing an organization’s processes to produce quality products that meet customer expectations. It represents an international consensus on good quality management systems and practices, regardless of the size of the organization, or its industry.
You may have heard your suppliers refer to themselves as “ISO 9001 certified”. This normally means that they have a Quality Management System (QMS) in place that meets the requirements for ISO certification.
In practical terms, it means your supplier has implemented a systematic approach to quality management, and is operating its business to ensure that customer needs are clearly understood, agreed and fulfilled. ISO 9001 does not specify requirements for the goods or services themselves – that is up to the customer to define.
